Is it possible to modify religion for today’s modern world? The Pope seems to think so. The Pope has announced that condoms can be used (in certain cases) to prevent transmitting HIV to others.
This doesn’t mean that the Pope is condoning pre-marital or recreational sex, but it does mean that the Pope realizes that in today’s world certain precautions need to be taken.
The Pope’s announcement is similar to other changes in the religious world. We live in such a fast-paced society that religion has to adapt to the American culture. People can watch sermons online, and couples can even wed over Skype.
In order for religion to remain in people’s lives it needs to adapt, but I hope the underlying values in religions don’t eventually dissappear.
